The Certificate III in Hairdressing SHB30416 is an entry-level hairdresser course for beginners who wish to become a qualified, professional hairdresser. After completing the course, you’ll have a nationally-recognised, industry-standard qualification that will allow you to work in a variety of settings.
Whether you want to work in a salon or are interested in becoming a self-employed, mobile hairdresser, our Cert III in Hairdressing can help set you up for success. Because it covers both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge you need to enter the industry, it’s suitable for complete beginners and apprentices or trainees alike.
- How long does a hairdressing course take?
Our hairdressing course includes 6 modules: Inside the Salon, Cut and Design, Salon Client, Creative Hair Design, Hairdressing Foundations and Colour, and Bleach and Highlight. If you choose to study full time you’ll complete the course in 72 weeks, whereas if you choose to complete an apprenticeship at the same time, you’ll complete the course in 3 years.
The following term structures apply:
- For full-time study, the course is delivered in 6 x 10-week terms with 2 days of on-campus study a week.
- For those doing an apprenticeship, the course is delivered in 12 x 10-week terms with up to 1 day of study a week on campus.
Certain theory-based units within the course are available online. Practical units such as hair cutting and colouring, however, must be completed in person under the supervision of one of our expert trainers.
